Dear 2015

Another year is coming to an end. This year personally has been a blessing as my daughter turned 1 and feeling content that as parents we are growing. We are striving to do everything in our power to be the best role model and provider for our child. I am sure this is what every couple would […]

EARTH to MARS

I read this article about people applying to travel to Mars… and stay there for good !! It sounds like some Sci-Fi movie minus the aliens of course! The whole project is called Mars One. Their aim is to establish human settlement in Mars by 2023. There were around 100,000 applications for the one-way trip […]

Are mermaids for real ?

My first mermaid sighting was Ariel, the little Mermaid on Television 😀 As a child, such creatures were a huge fascination especially when they look so much like us. I got interested in a claim that Mermaids can actually be real and many were spotted at different countries. The descriptions of the sighting were eerily […]

The Compare and Despair Syndrome

Have you felt anytime that the people around you seem to do better? A friend who recently went to Mauritius for a second honeymoon,an ex-colleague who landed up getting a better job – three times your salary, bunch of old girlfriends ‘catch-up’ for dinner. Someone attending a concert, someone having those bollywood based weddings…. etc […]

Diary of a Die-Hard Foodie

“You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces – just good food from fresh ingredients.”  – Julia Child

Dear Diary,

I never knew that I would end up writing a MORAL STORY FOR EVERY CULINARY ADVENTURE. My last week was quite eventful since I had a lot to learn. I tried to reinvent and refurbished some common simple recipes into culinary “so-called-masterpieces” ( LOL ).

Day 1

I tried out Brussels sprouts for the first time. As soon as I dropped the sprouts in hot olive oil, the house smelt like heaven. The fragrance was too indulgent and mouthwatering.

MORAL : Do not overcook the Brussels sprouts – it becomes taste-less. It must be crunchy !!

Day 2

Sometimes I think the only thing that prevents me from being a perfect dieter will be Noodles. To top off the indulgent “maggi” – pair it with eggs. To pardon myself for my indulgent damnation – I threw in some sauteed zucchini for the extra crunch factor.

MORAL : Always cook the eggs at the end. You dont want your eggs to be cold and soggy.

Day 3

Now I was addicted to Brussels sprouts and I would put it in almost everything. Today I had made pasta with cherry tomatoes, Brussels sprouts and reinvented the garlic bread with Arabic bread. A pseudo-Italian way of having pasta .

MORAL : Always use fresh garlic and not powered garlic. You end up with “garlic” fingers for the whole week.

Farfalle pasta with cherry tomatoes, brussels sprouts and garlic bread

Day 4

I have a confession and I know you would have figured it out….. I love pasta and if I have to eat it everyday of my life I would gladly do so. Today I made pasta with turkey sausage, cherry tomatoes, capsicum and tomato sauce. It was a beautiful spread of sauce on that white pasta. I would have preferred wheat.

MORAL : It is better to mix the pasta and sauce before serving else if you are a messy eater you will end up cleaning your living room couch and yourself.

Day 5

I found this new “breed” of pasta. This multi-vegetable ( multi-color)  pasta is definitely a must-try-it-out-yourself fad. A succulent bologonese sauce with shredded aubergine . Splendid !!!

MORAL : Adding more veggies will only heighten the taste of pasta. Nothing can replace that !

Day 6

Potato Stuffing – Long task but was worth it. Stuffed potato with sour cream and chives. Yes, that is mozzarelllllla (ooh la la) cheese.

MORAL : Make sure the potatoes are cooled before you scoop out the potato if you don’t have time – always keep a batch of ice to cool off your blistered fingers.

Day 7

Bruschetta with garlic sauce, feta stuffed chilies and mozzarella cheese with hummus dipping

MORAL : You wont require any dipping once you see these hot babes popping out from the oven…. Nice and crispy

So what have I earned after all these lessons ??? A big dipper badge slapped right across my arm !

A Big Dipper Badge ! 😉

When old friends come back into our lives …

I had always considered myself as a loner, a person who would not stick to one kind of friend nor in one particular group.. you can say I am free-spirited when I make friends. The good part of it all is that you are surrounded by people who like you and enjoy your company.

The downside of it .. well since you are not in any group or have a particular set of friends….the tendency to be forgotten is easy. Its like the room is filled with people but you are just standing there by yourself at the corner. Trust me it is not a good place to be at !

I have to say there are some people who are always in the background.. you may have ignored them or “moved on ”. These people slowly seeps into your life for short span of time and vanish completely like the morning dew. This post is dedicated for those peeps who has always been that way but never let me feel alone.

My old friends are back and it does make a difference in my life.. I have to say I have changed.. I am no longer a LONER.

How I “whipped up” my Easter with Betty Crocker :)

First of all, this post is all about the little stuff happening in my life. I want to acknowledge it right now because I believe that small things really matter at the end …..
One of my childhoods sweetest memories are of my mom’s freshly baked cakes ….. the endless waiting to get a chance to lick off the leftover batter and cling onto it until I nearly clean the vessel sparkling neat .
I am sure we all have had our share of such exuberance.
My mom and dad would run around the house to get these ingredients together, alternate to whip up the cake and call out for the ingredients one by one like a doctor asking for the instruments during surgery. I would just look up into the oven and witness the creation of a perfect circle of love called CAKE!!!!
( I just realized I never took a picture of mama’s cake…… DANG!!!!! )
I always truly-madly-deeply wanted to follow the tradition of cake baking but I never seem to find time like my mom. I know I cannot compare myself to her – she is a supermom who would work on shifts as a Nurse and yet made surplus-scrumptious-succulent cakes.
Miss you Mom !

Miss you Mom !

In a shameless tribute to this baking tradition – I thought a good help will not be a sin this Easter. So I chose the Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix. As promised it didn’t take more than 15 minutes to whip up!!
Work - In - Progress

Work – In – Progress

While I was waiting for my husband from work, all I did was add a little extra bit of my touch in this brownie ( does aesthetic beautification count ? ) and I knew I could make a perfect Easter for me and my sweet-toothed better-half  😉
The rest of the evening ended with a pleasant chat with my folks, a wonderful time out with my husband and ended perfectly with a healthier choice of food –

I know no matter how much or how little I did this Easter – memories are always in the making…

Grinch of New Year

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. ~Martin Luther King, Jr. The year 2012 has been a year of painful disasters, deaths and immense trauma. Yet we “move on” because these disasters, death, trauma happened elsewhere and […]

The irony

Mother Nature’s basic trait is Balance and displays it remarkably. It is the result of this balance, we live our life the way we are and some people also would support that the cosmic energies modulate the way we think and act. Why i talk about nature is to point out how just and right […]
