An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
The year 2012 has been a year of painful disasters, deaths and immense trauma.
Yet we “move on” because these disasters, death, trauma happened elsewhere and not to us. We tend to “cope up” so quickly.
We will still rave on the “New Year parties, the latest thing in fashion, on what we would wear on New Year’s Eve! “.
We will still talk about celeb makeups and breakups and their ongoing nonsense which would cover the front page of all newspapers.
On second thought, I would like to blame the media for promoting this useless bit of information of who is cheating who, and which actor is dancing where. I am sure Thomsun Reuters initial intention was to inform everyone about what’s happening around the world and not about personal lives.
But this media thrives on the response and attention which then points to us – What do we look for ?
To come to a breaking point, when have we become so cold and created this cocoon of self-absorption?…. This thirst to be on the top or in front of the Television.
Everyone wanting to be someone yet fails to empathize or sympathize with the current situations except for an occasional “ooh” or pouting faces.
Apart from that what have we contributed to these situations?
Today I won’t celebrate New Year for many reasons…
the past year has taught me to humble and cherish all the people around me.We are just speck of people who gets washed and drowned in a blink of an eye and it is high time that we do something about it.
Make a difference, even if it is one person. Do not wait for the world to end !!
